Tobacco Road
Brewing

WORLD CLASS BEER FOR OUR NEIGHBORS.

Whether it’s from Tobacco Road Brewing or our carefully selected guest taps from other independent craft brewers, you will always find a variety of beers on tap to satisfy every type of beer fanatic.

What Makes Tobacco Road Brewing Different?

Our Beer

Community. That is our motivation. We strive to brew beer not only for our neighbors, but with our neighbors. We aim to source local ingredients as often as possible and actively work with and support our fellow North Carolina brewers. Conquering the beer world is not our intention; brewing the best beer for the local community is our number one priority.

Tobacco Road Brewing opened its doors in the historic powerhouse building in December of 2016 and officially started brewing in August of 2017. Chris brought his brewing expertise to us and shaped this space with his creative beer recipes and love for the local and craft community.

Being in the heart of craft beer country, we couldn’t resist being a part of this exciting and booming industry. Our brewery location crafts top of the line beer, using local ingredients as often as we can, whether that comes from our local malt company or fruit from farmer’s markets.

You won’t find our beers across the world because brewing for our community is our priority. Outside of our brewery, you can find our beers on tap at our Durham and Chapel Hill locations.

Head Brewer Chris Atkins

Meet our head brewer, Chris! Before joining us at Tobacco Road Brewing, Chris studied at The Siebel Institute in Chicago, and later in Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany. He completed an International Diploma in Brewing program before returning to the United States, where he put those skills to the test for the next six years at Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery, four years which were spent as the co-head brewer.

Chris’ international and local craft beer knowledge brings a unique perspective to Tobacco Road Brewing, and we’re confident you’ll taste that in his beers.

Currently On Tap

Power House Pale Ale

Pale Ale - ABV: 5.2 IBU: Medium

An unfiltered American Pale Ale named for the building that house our brewery, the site of Raleigh’s first power plant in 1908. This Pale Ale is brewed with Cascade, Centennial, and Warrior hops and Foundation, Wheat and Rye malts from Epiphany Malt in Durham. Light bodied, crisp, with notes of citrus especially grapefruit and clean low-medium bitter finish.

Jones St. Wheat

Belgian Wit - ABV: 4.8% IBU: low

Named for the street in downtown Raleigh our brewery is located on. A Belgian-Style wheat beer brewed Wheat, Oats, and Foundation malt, hopped with Hallertau and accented with orange peel, lemon peel, coriander, and black pepper and traditional Wit yeast. This beer is hazy in appearance with citrus aromas of lemon and orange, with an easy to drink smoothness from the wheat and a bright citrus finish.

Brightleaf IPA

American IPA - ABV: 6.4% IBU: moderate

The name of this IPA is inspired both a North Carolina tobacco varietal and a popular district in Durham. Light orange in color, this IPA has a rich tropical fruit aroma from the use of Warrior, Cenntenial, El Dorado, and Cascade hops. The flavor is citrus forward with a medium body and a slightly resinous finish.

Perique Pilsner

Pilsner - ABV: 4.8 IBU: moderate

Perique Tobacco is processed by fermentation under pressure. This Pilsner is also fermented in a pressurized environment to keep the flavor as clean and refreshing as possible. Light in color and body while still full flavored.

What We Have Brewing

Tobacco Road Amber

Amber -

A malt forward Amber Ale brewed for the cooler fall temperatures. Epiphany Foundation, Vienna, and Caramel malt lend breads and toffee flavors which combine with Warrior, Hallertau, and Chinook for notes of pine and spice.

Tobacco Road Coffee Stout

Coffee Stout -

An American stout featuring flavors of dark chocolate, caramel, and dark roast is finished with the addition of locally roasted coffee for a perfect cold weather beer.

You have questions,
we have answers.

What’s the difference between a microbrewery and a craft brewery?

The main difference is size. While microbreweries serve to a more local audience and produce less than 15,000 beer barrels per year, craft brewers serve to a much larger audience.

Plans for distribution?

At the moment, we only have our beers available in our Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill locations. Stay tuned for any future distribution updates.

Do you sell growlers?

Yes! We currently sell our growlers in-store and can fill your growler with your choice of one of our house beers only.
